Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 12, 2026

This policy explains what data Salary vs Life (“we”, “us”) collects when you use this website, how ads and cookies work here, and the choices you have.

The short version: the calculators run inside your browser. The salary you type, the cities you pick and your household details are not sent to us. We cannot see them. Advertising partners such as Google may use cookies to show ads, and you can control that.

1. Information you give us

Calculator inputs. Everything you enter in a calculator is processed by JavaScript in your browser. It is not sent to our servers, logged or stored by us. To save you time, your most recent inputs are kept in your browser’s local storage on your own device. You can clear this at any time in your browser settings.

The negotiation letter generator. The same applies. Names, employers and offer figures you type stay in your browser. Nothing is submitted.

Email. If you email us, we receive your address and your message. We use them only to reply. We keep emails only as long as needed to handle your request.

2. Information collected automatically

Server logs. Like most websites, our host records standard log data: IP address, browser type, pages requested and the time of each request. This is used to keep the site secure and running, and is kept for a limited time.

Analytics. We may use Google Analytics to count visits and see which tools and pages are used. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects data such as pages viewed, approximate location, device type and how you reached the site. We use it only in summary form, to improve the site. You can learn how Google uses this data at How Google uses information from sites that use its services, and you can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

3. Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. We use:

  • Necessary storage: local storage for your calculator inputs, and a cookie to remember your consent choices.
  • Analytics cookies: to measure how the site is used, if analytics is enabled.
  • Advertising cookies: set by Google and other ad partners, explained below.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some features, such as remembering your inputs, may not work without them.

4. Advertising and Google AdSense

This site is funded by advertising. We use Google AdSense to show ads.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • Other third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve ads on this site and may use cookies, web beacons or similar technologies to measure ads and show ads based on your interests.

How to opt out of personalized ads:

If you opt out, you will still see ads, but they will be less tailored to you. Learn more in Google’s advertising policy.

We do not control the cookies that third-party advertisers use. Their own privacy policies apply to them.

5. Visitors in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before personalized advertising or analytics cookies are used. This is done through a consent message (a Google-certified consent management platform). You can accept, refuse or choose by purpose, and you can change your choice at any time using the privacy or cookie settings link on the site. If you refuse, Google may still show non-personalized ads, which use cookies only for things like frequency capping and fraud prevention.

Our legal bases under the GDPR and UK GDPR are your consent (for advertising and analytics cookies) and our legitimate interest in running a secure website (for server logs and necessary storage).

6. Your rights

EEA and UK residents have the right to access, correct or delete personal data, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, to withdraw consent at any time, and to complain to their local data protection authority.

US residents, including California residents under the CCPA/CPRA, have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information for money. Showing personalized ads through Google may count as “sharing” under California law; you can opt out using the links in section 4 or your browser’s Global Privacy Control signal.

Because the calculators do not send us your inputs, we usually hold very little about you. To use any of these rights, email info@salaryvslifecalc.com.

7. Data sharing

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. Data is shared only with service providers who help run the site (our web host, Google for ads and analytics), or when the law requires it.

8. Children

This site is not aimed at children under 13, or under 16 in the EEA and UK. We do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

9. Links to other sites

Our guides link to government and other websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Big changes will be noted on this page.
